Some Nigerians staged a protest at Fountain Unity, Abuja, demanding immediate release of Leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria a.k.a Shiites,
who has been in military detention since December 2015 following a clash between the Islamic group and Nigeria Army.
The protesting members are demanding that the Federal government obey a Federal High Court ruling on December 2nd 2016 that ordered the immediate release of El-Zakzaky and his wife Malamatu Zeatudden. The court had ordered that El-Zakzaky and his wife be released within 45 days of the ruling. Five months down the line, they are still in custody.
